Images - Sites and Services

SC - Steve suggested that I start a page where we can link to images sites that we find helpful.  Image Shack is one of my favorites -

Image Shack

What Image Shack does is provide URL links for photos that you upload from your computer, and it allows you to resize the images (depending on how you want to use them).  You can sign on as a guest for individual links, or register for a free membership.  With your membership, you can access your library of saved photo links.  I made great use of this service after my son's Bar Mitzvah - instead of e-mailing attachments to people, I was able to just send them the links (like this lovely family shot).

SG -

stock.xchng

stock.xchng is my favorite site for copyright free/creative commons licensed images

LF - I use PhotoBucket for all my pictures. Like Image Shack, it resizes the image as well for you.  Once you upload the picture to the site, they give you four codes that you could possibly use:

  • a sharing URL
  • the actual URL of the image
  • HTML code (to add to a website)
  •  IMG code.

With the pictures you upload, you can create slideshows and create a "picture remix" (I've actually never used this feature). They also really simplified the "copy & paste" feature - all you do is click in the url box and it automatically copies the url to your clipboard.  They also make picture sharing fairly easy - me and my friends share all of our pictures using this site.

BW- This isn't about a site to host and edit photos, but I find some interesting images, and a lot advice about how to find and use images from TASI Image sites

They have links to many image databases, and tell which ones allow free use of their images.

KR- Picasa is a photo organizing feature from Google.  It needs to be downloaded to your computer, but it then goes through all your files and finds all image files.  You can then reorganize the images into files, upload webalbums which you can then share with others, or allow them to access it via the webaddress.    This site allows you to edit and add special effects as well as print and email directly from your address book.

CG - GRSites is a great resources for web design.  You have to use judgement as to what you take from there, as some of it is rather gawdy and hideous, but it's really easy to search by texture or color for what you need.

LH-  Shutterfly is my favorite photo site.  I've always gotten great prints from them, and their software is very easy to use.  They have a TON of printing options and products to choose from, as well as a free photo editing software and photo management tool that works really well also.
