- Quick tour/Uploading a video to blip.tv
- Adding a pop-up Player from blip.tv
- Tour of class vodcast (files, blog, feed, result)
Steve Notes:
- Short, Short, Short
- Don't be surprised when media types don't work well together
- mp4/mov + rss = vodcast
- Adding/embedding a videoplayer and vodcasting are generally different things (though it's getting weird)
- A blog is not a vodcast and a vodcast is not a blog...but.a blog has an rss feed, so video files in a blog can make a nifty vodcast
- Only one media file per post...think of each as an episode
- You can do this manually or via a service...but you need a place for the video files...
- Three "easy" steps:
- Creating/Capturing (Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Cam, Digital Camera, Camcorder....)
- Hosting (library server or service: blip.tv, YouTube, Vimeo...)
- Casting (Blogger/Feedburner or blip.tv or Vimeo or YouTube Channel)
Definition(s):
- Video Podcast - (sometimes shortened to vidcast or vodcast) is a term used for the online delivery of video on demand video clip content via Atom or RSS enclosures. The term is an evolution specialized for video, coming from the generally audio-based podcast and referring to the distribution of video where the RSS feed is used as a non-linear TV channel to which consumers can subscribe using a PC, TV, set-top box, media center or mobile multimedia device. - Blog Posts:
- Let's take a quick look at the flickr groups: scils598f08 & scils598f08-edexperience
- What do we have in common? what are our differences?
- Do educational videos stand a chance vs. entertainment videos? Why/Why not?
- Educational Video (see below)
- Entertainment Video (see below)
- Create 2 videos (1 w/WMM and 1 "live" video)(your choice and you can do more if you like)
- When doing the WMM video, resize all images 1st and make 320x240
- Lots of ways to resize, you can use picnik or dl resized pics from flickr
- Create a short (<2min) "entertainment" video
- Upload to YouTube (you'll need to create an account xxscils598...)
- Tag the video scils598, scils598f08 and use content based tags
- Upload to blip.tv (you'll need to create an account xxscils598...)
- Tag the video scils598, scils598f08 and use content based tags
- Create and upload a 2nd short (<2min) "educational" video
- Upload to YouTube
- Tag the video scils598f08
- Upload to blip.tv
- Tag the video scils598f08
- Embed one video on your blog using Object/Embed code YouTube provides
- Additionally add a link back using the URL that YouTube provides
- Embed the other video on your blog using blip.tv's Pop-up Player
- Add link to your blip.tv show page as well
- In each blog post give a short lead in to the video
- Comment on person 5th from you (each way) on their Blog Posts
- Check your feed in bloglines/iTunes
- Let's see what happens (unless you have .mov or .mpv things shouldn't work in iTunes)
Suggestions:
(Your area to make any suggestions as to how this is taught/what is taught)
(example) sg - suggestion goes here
sg **- next time have everyone buy quicktime upgrade for $30 for mp4 conversion?? (other converter?) ts - I would also mention slide.com as a quick, easy and fun way to make videos of still shots to upload to blogs, facebook, etc.
cg - Just so everyone knows, if you use iMovie to create your videos, you can compress AFTER creating the movie in quicktime. Very easy and no compatibility issues.
gc - Prism is a free video converter that *claims* to work w/ Windows & Mac (I only tested it on my PC). Here's the description from the website: "Prism is a free video file format converter for Windows and Mac. It can convert video files from avi, wmv, 3gp and more into avi, asf, wmv, mp4, 3gp and others. It can also convert your DVD discs into many different formats." Unlike many of the other converters I tried, the free version has a lot of features and converts a lot of file formats without upgrading!
